It’s not a Bee line, it’s a V/line – Melbourne to Apollo Bay, Victoria

The Travel Bees are making a V/Line for Apollo Bay. With the Victorian government offering free public transport, our V/line 195km train and coach journey…… nada. In fact, the train conductor joked that instead of showing train tickets, a photo of your dog would suffice! Unbelievable…. something to consider WA.

The fuel shortage has thrown many a plan into disarray, but evidently not ours. As it turns out, we couldn’t have picked a better time and it seems there are others taking advantage.

When we changed from train to bus, there were clearly too many people. For a moment we were worried, there was a bit of confusion, changes of instructions, but within 5 minutes we were split into two groups according to destination and a second bus pulled up. We departed only 5 minutes late. Not bad for a free trip!

The scenery on the ride is stunning. From wide, golden beaches stretching for kilometres to forest to red cliffs and rock formations, there is no way you could, or would, sleep this journey. You just better hope you don’t get travel sick. It is windy, it is hilly and there’s hairpins. It’s not called The Great Ocean Road for nothing.

Mogg’s Creek Beach from the V/line

Speaking of hills…. I am feeling rather apprehensive. We have done little training and preparation, but we are off to walk 104km from Apollo Bay to the 12 Apostles, over the next 6 days. Sounds fun right? Well, fortunately Mother Nature is on our side, we have fine weather forecast.

Wish us luck! The Travel Bees and friends will be reporting on beauty, beaches, blisters and sore buttocks. Stay tuned!
