Beach day – Sunshine Coast – QLD

There is something different about last minute holidays. More fly by the seat of your pants and see what happens different. With few expectations, no pressure and perhaps a tad more flexibility, they often turn out the best. If something goes wrong, shrug it off and move on!

We booked a last minute trip to the Sunshine Coast three weeks ago to accompany Miss Canada as she (sadly) heads home via Brisbane, after spending Christmas with us. Dubbed the ‘Girls trip’, Miss 15, Miss Canada and I flew in, picked up a hire car and headed for the coast.

With our accommodation at Maroochydore, day 1 was reserved for exploring the beaches. First up we wandered down to Cotton Tree Park a beautiful reserve made for families with lush grass, picnic tables, play equipment and standup paddle board hire. Overlooking the entrance to Maroochy River, this park also has a stunning outdoor 50m pool (always a draw card for me). Across the road we grabbed a delicious breakfast at Mio Spazio Cafe. My Bircher muesli was the best. A fresh and healthy start.

We then made our way to Maroochydore Beach. After contemplating getting in for some 20 minutes, we finally plucked up the courage. Our faces were all lit with bright smiles as we soaked in the warm water and battled the waves. We all agreed, the beach was so much fun and wondered why it took us so long to get in!

We then hit the road in our hired Chery. Intending on heading straight to Noosa, the universe had other plans (shrug it off). There was an accident on Sunshine Motorway and we ended up diverting through Coolum Beach.

What a find! A beautiful long sandy beach with a shop/cafe lined strip, it was bustling yet laid back. Busy due to school holidays and all the traffic being diverted through, but we were super glad of the stop and were stoked to discover some afternoon/twilight markets. We were entertained by a hilarious Scottish market stall holder (who didn’t seem to notice his every second word was f*%# ) and with cheap jewellery on our fingers, we finally headed to Noosa.

Noosa is posh! As we drove along Hastings street on our way to Laguna Lookout, I realised we might have been a little underdressed! I knew it was high end, but I figured it was still a beach suburb. But…….. when you see children in the street wearing Ralph Lauren, you know it’s another league all together.

The lookout was an absolute stunner, followed by exploring Noosa Heads Main Beach on dusk. Another picture postcard beach, it was the perfect place for a proposal photo shoot which was beautiful to watch.

We filled our tummies with a lovely Indian meal back on Hastings street (conscious the whole time of our attire and cheap jewellery 🤣), before heading home to bed.

A thoroughly enjoyable girls day out.
