Your white shoes are now brown and you find a whole fly up your nose! That’s right, that is what I discovered as we were packing up to head home….. sorry for the gory details.
Day 2 of the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival starts with the ‘Bush Poets Breakfast’. I wasn’t sure what to expect, other than the obvious Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson recitals and bacon and eggs.
The crowd was a lot smaller than the night before and the average age a little higher, but we thoroughly enjoyed our morning. The obligatory bacon and egg roll went down well with the Yahava coffee from the strategically placed coffee van and we sat back and enjoyed.
Yes there were the obligatory recitals that were very good but it was the original work that we found most entertaining. Poems about sheering sheep, living on the land, boot-scooting, meeting new people and our favourite; teaching your wife to drive.
The poets were great entertainers using their poem, their voice, their hands and in one case their mouth organ to tells us stories. Just as with the country music the night before, all we had to do was sit back and listen. It is easy to see how similar poetry writing and song writing is.
After breakfast, it was back to country music through until 4pm. Sadly, although all enjoying ourselves, we had to depart at lunchtime to get back to the ‘real world’ and prepare for another week of work.
I must say, the drive back to Busselton was a little concerning. It is mighty dry out there and easy to see how quickly it could all go horribly wrong. Please heed the fire warning system, we are living in a tinder box.!
To save my white shoes, and in a bid to blend in, I think I will need to make a purchase before next year’s festival…….. I need cowboy boots. Miss Canada, I now understand why you love them!
Not sure how to prevent the fly up the nose problem, although after Covid I guess the solution is obvious….. but a mask just doesn’t fit with the rest of the outfit!!
