Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. Whilst I consider myself an experienced traveller, I still make mistakes. It’s good when you are travelling with someone that can help you see the funny side. That’s my Master 16!
1. While trying to feed two recently arrived, weary and hangry travellers (after midnight) I managed to drop the hotel keycard on the floor in Oporto. I didn’t notice.
On arrival back at the hotel I rummaged around and couldn’t find the key. I am getting exasperated when Master 16 announces…… “Oh that cardboard wallet thing? That’s on the floor in Oporto”. Insert rolled eye emoji and back we go.
2. Master 16 trying to film a video of Sydney Opera house and the harbour bridge. Not realising, there I am walking in excited circles in front of his camera……. with a big red helmet on! Video ruined.

3. I say “Oh it’s really easy to use the tram you just tap your credit card on and off”. We get on the tram, “Where is the tapper thing?!!!”. Master 16 says “On the platform”.
4. Every single lump in the pavement…. I find it and trip over .
5. This one wasn’t us:
We board the ferry to Manly, Master 16 wants to sit inside. The weather seems pretty good so I argue we should enjoy the sunshine. He disagrees.
As we pass the entrance to Sydney Harbour, the swell increases. Suddenly with no warning, we hit a big wave. Everyone outside gets completely and utterly drenched from head to toe. Master 16 just gives me ‘that look’ and I agree……. it was highly amusing.
6. Me having expectations of a teenager that were just too high. It was 11am most mornings before we could actually get out and even then, in the most cool places ….. he was still tired.

I’ll admit….. there have been a few trialing moments and times I’ve had to drag him around, but I love that Master 16 knows how to have a laugh (even if it is at the expense of his mother).

P.S I should also have mentioned the e-bike hire today. Master 16’s seat wouldn’t stay up, the battery only worked sometimes and the gears could only be changed down and not up. He didn’t really find any of that very funny and neither did my ears!
