The Travel Bees are off on a different kind of holiday this week. Our usual adventures; jam packed with sight seeing and activities is not what the family needed at this point in time.
After a busy few months of working, adjusting to the demands of ATAR and training hard for sport, complete relaxation is required. However, as we head to our chill out destination; Bintan Island Indonesia, we have managed to squeeze 23 hours in Singapore.
Having been to this beautiful city many times, we know this is not a city you can ignore. It is beautiful, clean and friendly. With so much to see and do, it would have been criminal to simply sit by the pool.
As I hadn’t been to Singapore recently, I only had one thing on my agenda; Gardens by the Bay. Built since my last stay here, this luscious tropical fiesta of a garden, has long been on my bucket list. In fact, it was only myself and Miss 13 who hadn’t already been.

It’s iconic ‘trees’ are a site synonymous with Singapore. Eye catching structures projecting into the sky, covered in luscious climbers and succulents, these engineering feats are a sight to behold.

At the recommendation of our taxi driver, we arrived at 5pm to walk around the gardens and get dinner before watching the spectacular light show. For me, the highlight was the Skyway. Intended to mimic walking at canopy height of a rain forest, the walkway afforded amazing views of the trees themselves as well as the impressive Marina Bay Sands next door.

The light show set to accompanying music was certainly impressive making the evening absolutely the best time of the day to visit.
However; note to oneself and my readers …… if at all possible, avoid going to Gardens by the Bay on a Saturday night on the last day of a festival (in this case, the Autumn festival). It is absolutely packed, space is at a premium and you should expect to be pushed around by tourists and locals alike, focused only on getting the best spot.

Still definitely well worth the visit, it did not disappoint.
And now…… we relax.
